One of the bodies of the three people that drowned in the Kafue River in Kitwe District has been retrieved.

Zambia Army officers from the Commando Unit in Ndola managed to retrieve the body amid high water currents on Tuesday morning.

The army officers have however failed to retrieve the other two bodies which they have indicated may only be retrieved once they float.

They said it was not easy to start looking for bodies whose exact position is unknown under the circumstances.

Kitwe District police Commanding Officer Lizzie Machina who briefed the media said the bodies will only be retrieved once they float.

“The bodies will be retrieved when they float. For now we will leave it here, as you can see there is so much current and the water is spinning so its very dangerous we don’t want to lose another life,” she said.

The two people whose bodies are yet to be retrieved are that of Kondwani Katulushi 38 and Rodson Yona 35 both of Chipata compound in Kitwe.

The two drowned on Sunday when they attempted to retrieve the body of the unknown person which was just floating in the Kafue River near the Nkana Water Works treatment plant.
