The Commando Unit of Mushili in Ndola has finally managed to retrieve the last two bodies of the three people who drowned in the Kafue river in Kitwe.
One of the bodies was spotted on Tuesday floating after the commando divers had left the scene.
The officers were on site Wednesday and retrieved the body which was floating and in the process discovered the last body. The last body was retrieved at around 12:20hrs Wednesday after several attempts.
Kitwe District Commissioner Elias Kamanga who was found at the scene said the first body which was retrieved on Tuesday has not been identified.
Mr Kamanga said government has offered to support the families by helping to bury the three bodies.
“Finally all the bodies have been retrieved by the One Commando Unit from Ndola but the challenge we have is identifying the body of the first person who was retrieved yesterday[Tuesday],” Kamanga said.
Two people died on Sunday after they tried to retrieve the body of an unidentified man who drowned from an unknown area but floated at the same point.
The bodies of the three are lying in the Kitwe Central Hospital Mortuary and are expected to be put to rest today.
