Expelled Movement for Multi Party Democracy secretary general Muhabi Lungu says that his team that has endorsed Patriotic Front candidate Edgar Lungu will not stop using MMD regalia in PF campaigns.
MMD president Nevers Mumba has warned that he will not allow the Lungu camp that has carried with them to the PF campaign former Republican President Rupiah Banda to stop using the MMD symbol and regalia when they campaign for PF.
However, Lungu says Mumba has no powers to stop them using MMD regalia and the symbol as the decision was made by the National Executive Committee.
He said that the MMD team that had joined the PF campaigns were only aligned for the duration of the election.
“We have made it clear that we have not joined the PF but have only endorsed a candidate for this one election and after that we will be back to our party,” Lungu said.
“We will not stop using MMD regalia because we are still MMD and are only campaigning for a candidate this time around. We are not even touching the PF regalia because we are not PF.”
He said: “There is nothing Dr Mumba can do because that decision was made by the National Executive Committee to support Edgar. If Dr Mumba wants to sue let him go ahead but sue for what? Let him just accept that he is fighting a losing battle.”
The MMD members that had elected for President Banda to contest shifted to PF after the former Head of State’s bid to stand was foiled by the courts of law at the last minute.
