The opposition United Party for National Development say they will be forced to retaliate if the attacks against their members continue in the campaign for the January 20 Presidential Elections.
UPND special advisor to the president Douglas Syakalima held a press briefing in Lusaka in the aftermath of the attack of a UPND cadre Siisi Imasiku with a plank at Mongu Airport on Wednesday.
Syakalima told a media briefing that the PF cadres had now started carrying guns in trying to intimidate their opponents.
He said there was a limit the UPND members could stomach violence.
“The PF should never push our members too much. There is a limit to which human beings could stomach criticism without reacting so they should know that we will not forever fold our arms,” Syakalima said.
“Already we are under pressure from our members all over the country to retaliate but our president has sent word that we should remain peaceful. We have always been a peaceful party.”
He said, “Of course we have the capacity to react but we have opted to remain peaceful for the love of our country.”
The police have arrested Nobiwa Imakando a former deputy minister in the MMD government who hit Siisi with a plank injuring him severely.
