Political Scientist Alex Ng’oma says premature declaration of victory in next week’s presidential election is recipe for anarchy.
Dr. Ng’oma says by declaring themselves winner of the election, candidates doing so are preparing their supporters that should they lose the election, they should not accept the result.
Dr. Ng’oma says only the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is mandated to announce the results after voting and that politicians should desist from making such dangerous statements.
He says politicians should not think that they will win the election based on the huge crowds they are pulling to their rallies.
Dr Ng’oma says people attend all the rallies for political parties because they want to hear what they are offering.
He says it is unacceptable for some politicians to start declaring themselves winners of the election even before the election has not been held.
Dr. Ng’oma notes that it is such statements that lead to cadres turning violent because their leader told them that they will win the election.
The Political Scientist has since advised all political parties to ensure that they do not issue statements likely to cause anarchy as the country prepares to go to the polls.
Meanwhile, PF Lusaka Province Campaign Team Spokesperson Stanley Chumya says relevant authorities should summon the UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema to explain what he meant by saying he will not concede defeat in the forthcoming election.
