The United Party for National Development (UPND) in Eastern Province has condemned the Patriotic Front government over the continued arrest of opposition party leaders in the country.
UPND National Chairperson for Youths and Sports development Michael Chuzu said the arrest of the opposition leaders in the country is a sign that democracy is slowly dying in the country.
Chuzu said the continued arrests of opposition leaders was paining a bad picture on the already dented democracy in the country.
“There is need for peace to be enjoyed by all Zambians. This should not be taken away by the PF government through the intimidation by the police in arresting opposition leaders,” he said.
He said the opposition and Non- governmental organisations have nowhere to run to as the police always intimidate them whenever they said something.
He has also advised PF government to focus on its campaign promises rather than arresting innocent citizens who are calling on government to implement promises made in its manifesto before it was elected into office.
