Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba has publicly announced that although he won’t take the position, at least one member from his ministry will sit on the newly appointed Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) Board, which was recently dissolved following a corruption scandal involving Tourism Minister Minister Sylvia Masebo.

Kabimba, who is also Secretary General of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF), says he has not been personally appointed to the ZAWA Board by the Toursim minister Sylvia Masebo, but that the position needs a representation from his ministry.

At a media briefing in Lusaka Last week, Tourism Minister Sylvia Masebo appointed Kabimba and six others on the ZAWA Board to be headed by former Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) president, Guy Robinson.

Other ZAWA Board members appointed include Tourism Permanent Secretary, Charity Mwansa, Kasiya Kazembe from the Ministry of Finance, Anita Balletoi, Chieftainess Mwape of the Nsenga of Petauke district, Younaso Mita, Timothy Mushibwe and Senior Chief Inyambo Yeta of the Lozi people in Sesheke district.

Explaining the appointment, Kabimba said other than him, the Attorney General and any other personnel from the Ministry of Justice were eligible to sit on the ZAWA Board to offer expertise.

He has since called on all Zambians to rally behind Masebo in addressing the many challenges that have affected ZAWA.

This is contained in a statement issued by PF Media and Publicity Director, Chanda Mfula.

Kabimba’s nomination to ZAWA by Masebo has come under severe criticism by the opposition, who have alleged the existence of a past personal relationship between Kabimba and Masebo, which they say represents a conflict of interest.
