The University Teaching Hospital (UTH) has run out of oxygen risking the lives of patients requiring the service.
UTH managing director Dr Lackson Kasonka has confirmed saying the oxygen plant has broken down but that they were using oxygen tanks to attend to emergencies.
Dr Kasonka however said they have already bought a new machine from South Africa in order to sustain oxygen supply at the institution and that it will arrive this week.
UTH urologist Dr Francis Manda has also confirmed saying the oxygen area at the institution has since been closed.
Dr Manda said some activities in the theatre laboratory have been stopped while the intensive care unit is partially operational.
