Youth Cries over Alleged Stolen Idea by PF

The PF government has been accused of plagiarising an idea for a Lusaka youth who suggested an innovative way of celebrating Youth Day.

Youth Cultural Promotion executive director Back Banda is disappointed by the manner the PF government stole his idea and incorporated it in the national planning for the celebration of Youth Day without involving him.

“My fellow Zambians, I know that the country is in a mourning mood after the tragic death of our beloved ones. But I want to express my heartfelt disappointment for the manner in which my two intellectual and Innovative Concepts are being hijacked by some people in government without coming in the open and acknowledge and seek an audience with me as an innovator before they publish and implement my intellectual works as theirs,” Banda said.

Radio Phoenix carried a news item at 18:00 hours yesterday in which Minister of Sports Chishimba Kambwili announced contents of Banda’s intellectual innovation on the New Youth Day Architecture paper which he had earlier presented to President Michael Sata in December 2011.

Banda said he had held a lengthy discussion with President Sata on how Zambia could improve Youth Day Cerebrations under the PF government but that he never received any feedback until on Friday evening when he heard it on radio.

“In good faith, I submitted the paper to H.E in person and I further gave a copy of that New Youth Day Cerebration Architecture to Hon. Chishimba Kambwili and Mr. Mulonda, the Director of Youth in the Department of youth so that we could move at the same wavelength as I awaited the response from H.E. I am shocked that the Ministry of Youth and Sports, without engaging me or consulting me, have gone to the media to announce that this year they will use my New Youth Day Cerebration Architecture without acknowledging me as the author and even before I discuss costs involved in that intellectual property.

“I will be able to make available the full concept to the people of Zambia in order for you to know the extent of impunity some people could have. The document was submitted to His Excellence in good faith but someone wants to get credit for hijacking an intellectual material. People of Zambia, what should I do to address this matter? Why should I not be rewarded for spending sleepless nights thinking and innovating? How can they quickly go to the media without agreeing with the author?”
