Clik here to view.Abraham Vandeem, the74-year old Mkushi farmer who was driving of the fateful van that caused the death of 56 people in the Zampost bus Liner has been granted a Kr 15, 000 cash bail by the Kabwe High Court.
Abraham Vandeem was charged with the offence of causing the death by dangerous driving in Chibombo, central province. He was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser registration number ABH 2214 on the fateful day.
Vandeem has had his passport confiscated by the state and was ordered to report himself to the police every fortnight.
This is according to court documents obtained from the Kabwe High Court. Vandeem is being represented by Kabesha and A Woods and company who had earlier appealed to the Kabwe High Court after Vandeem was denied bail by the lower court.
“Principal Resident Magistrate John Mbuzi’s decision to deny the accused person bail on grounds of his nationality have been reversed,” reads part of the statement.
Kabwe High Court Judge Eddie Sikazwe granted the bail after the accused provided two working sureties in the sum of KR5, 000 each.
Vandeem was denied bail last week after he was arrested for causing the road traffic accident involving the Zampost luxury bus, a foreign truck his van.
