Nason MsoniThe opposition United Party for National Development decision to ban its Members of Parliament from attending government events has continued being roundly condemned with All People’s Congress (APC) leader Nason Msoni joining the queue.

Msoni said the UPND MPs should match their decision by boycotting allowances at parliament if they feel so strongly against being in government.

He said that the public will stop taking the opposition political party seriously if they made political stunts that put them at variance with public expectations.

Msoni said the UPND should know that by being parliament its members were already participating in government.
“How do you boycott a government you are part of? The UPND should know that by having MPs in parliament they are already part of the government through the legislative wing,” he said.
“People will stop respecting the MPs if they start behaving like zombies who cannot think for themselves but be directed.”

He added: “They should also stop receiving allowances in parliament if they do not recognize the government.”

UPND Secretary General Stephen Katuka has stirred a controversy with his announcement that the party will not participate in state activities until their court action against the outcome of the election was disposed of.

The genesis of the storm was the innocent attendance of the launch of the planting season in Chisamba by Keembe UPND lawmaker Princess Anne Kasune-Zulu where President Edgar Lungu was in attendance.
