State Agents on Saturday night abducted wife of opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) spokesperson Charles Kakoma in a mafia like operation that was targeted at the official who was apparently not home at the time of the incident.
While UPND officials say those that abducted Mrs Kakoma were unknown and the matter had been reported to police, Zambia Reports has been informed that State agents were involved in the operation that seeks to cripple the leadership of the opposition.
So far, UPND campaign manager Garry Nkombo and his counterpart Ackson Sejani are locked up on trumped up murder charges in the Livingstone Remand Prison while there are manouvers by President Michael Sata to implicate others opposition leaders in criminal related cases.
Mrs Kakoma was waylaid at the gate of the family’s Ibex Hill residence in Lusaka’s upmarket area. She was handcuffed and blindfolded before being driven away to unknown destination.
After interrogating her about the husband’s whereabouts whose answers she did not provide, the agents decided to return with Mrs Kakoma to their house where they made away with a laptop and his gun.
She was later dumped along Leopards Hill Road near State Lodge. According to sources, the vehicle belonging to Kakoma who is Zambezi Member of Parliament was later found abandoned in New Kasama – north of the CBD of Lusaka.
UPND officials say the matter was reported to police. But police sources say clandestine operations to obtain classified information from UPND officials and their associates will be used if the orthodox way of traditionally summoning them to the police fails.
“There is a lot going on in the country right now. The people must be on high alert, we are made to act under instruction so there is nothing we can do but working according to orders,” a state source disclosed. “Sometimes, search warrants can easily expose our operations.”
State agents are frustrated that there has been nothing tangible to pin UPND officials regarding a number of issues under investigations and one of the things they now want to know is whether computers and laptops used by opposition leaders are among those used to supply classified information to some online publications.
