PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba addressing members of the business community at the Breakfast with the Vice-President meeting at Intercontinental HotelEvangelical Fellowship of Zambia executive director Pukuta Mwanza has challenged justice minister Wynter Kabimba to categorically state the time frame in which the final document of the constitution will be ready.

This comes in the wake of Kabimba’s dodgy response in Parliament when Movement for Multi Party Democracy (MMD) Chembe legislator Mwansa Mbulakulima demanded confirmation that the ruling Patriotic Front government intends to drag the process for the new constitution beyond 2016.

Kabimba’s response was unconvincing saying the new constitution will be ready within the first term of the PF but did not even mention whether the Technical Committee will meet the June 2013 deadline which they had set.

President Michael Sata, during the 2011 campaigns, had promised to deliver a people driven constitution within 90 days of assuming power but has lamentably failed.

Mwanza has asked Kabimba to be categorical and inform Zambians when the new constitution will be ready.

“We must have a specific date when the constitution with be ready, either its June 1 or June 30th,” he said.

Mwanza said the people of Zambia would not relent in demanding a people driven constitution that will include all the contentious clauses.

“We want to see a people’s constitution, not the one that is expressing partisan interest,” he said.

Mwanza said the PF government should bear in mind that both the process and the adoption of the constitution are very important to compiling a satisfactory and acceptable documents.

Kabimba, like President Sata, are on record rejecting some contentious clauses such as the vice presidential running mate which they supported while in the opposition and no longer want to discuss the 50+1 clause for a presidential candidate to be declared winner.
