Tayali: Hichilea Parading Diplomats Like UPND Cadres

$

HH-DiplomatsThe 15 diplomats who visited HH [Hakainde Hichilema] at his flamboyant Manshion should have known that their socialisation would not end on wines and good food, but on social media and statements from the UPND that they have turned into cadres meddling in internal affairs of our sovereign State to endorse a ruthless capitalist Zambia has ever had.

Four days after the visit, the diplomats are still being paraded as cadres for HHSC. Lifwekelo even goes on radio to boast that it is unprecedented to have diplomats sipping wines with an opposition leader but because HHSC is so kool and they have confidence in him they were happy to.

Other Diplomats who did not go were considered as insignificant who do not matter to the leadership of HHSC. Lifwekelo was very clear in his Statement, that diplomats from big Countries who matter to UPND attended the banquette in honour of the great leadership of HHSC.

I wonder if those diplomats knew that HHSC was sharing with them what he got from citizens who are now sufferings and he wants to cheat that he cares for them.

Anyway, if you wonder why I passionately think this man is all wrong for leadership of this Country, you can see what political mileage he wants to make out of the good gesture of our diplomats to accept his invitation.

Diplomats and other skeptics should know that everything about HHSC is politics and he has gone over what many politicians do to woo people for votes because the man is simply not a politician but an economic opportunist who is using politics as a means to achieve his goals.

Napwisha tukaneni nomba but I will share everything with HHSC since I can’t insult.

Talking Cancer: Police Clears Prostate Cancer Foundation Board Members

$

0

zambia_policeThe process of completing the registration formalities for the organisation I have founded, the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Zambia (PCFZ) is moving rather smoothly with the Zambia Police Service fingerprints section of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) clearing all the board members. The cleared finger prints of the board members submitted a little over two weeks ago were handed to me on Wednesday February 24, 2016.

Officers in the fingerprints section of the Zambia Police must be commended for their efficiency doing the clearance within the three weeks period I was told it normally takes for the process. When I followed up the issue via telephone to check on the progress I must admit I was surprised to be told, “Mr. Chimba, you can come and pick up the forms, you have all been cleared and the boss has signed. Just do us a favour by coming with the original receipt,” said a finger prints officer on the other end of the line. I wasted no time and abandoned everything I was doing to head to the Zambia Police Service headquarters.

When I finally got there, on the first floor, I was warmly received by the three officers I found, two gentlemen and a lady. I asked for the specific officer I had talked to on phone and was told he was in the next room. But prior to that, one officer (must be a traditional cousin from the east) jokingly said, “Ba Chimba, uyo wamane mufuna anamwalila last month.” His other two colleagues nodded in agreement while letting out big smiles on their faces. Also with a smile on me I quickly responded to the officers’ joke of that morning by simply saying, “Then I must have been speaking to his ghost over thirty minutes ago on the phone?”

The officer in question is my traditional cousin from Eastern province as I also joked with him on the phone that I had asked one of the fast food outlets to deliver to him some roasted mice with French fries. He let go a laugh. I was then advised to check on him in the next office which I did. True to his word he had the forms, ten in all, then he asked for the original receipt which I gave him and we proceeded to another area on the same floor were some details from the forms (names I should think) where entered into a book. I was made to sign with my full details and the forms were then handed over to me together with the original receipt.

Finger print clearance is one of the requirements for registration by the Registrar of the Non-Governmental Organisations at the Ministry of Community Development. What I am now waiting for is the letter of recommendation from the line government agency, the Ministry of Health. This is another requirement for NGO registration. I have been assured by a senior official, a director at the Ministry of Health assigned by the permanent secretary to collect the letter of recommendation on Friday February 26, 2016.

I really pray this happens as it is the only thing my colleagues and I are now waiting for so that we finally submit the application forms and all relevant documentation including the Foundation’s constitution to the Registrar of NGOs.

I am very positive that the efficiency exhibited by the finger prints section of the Zambia Police Service is not a one off thing but exactly what may be prevailing even at the office of the Registrar of NGOs at the Ministry of Community Development. So PCFZ may be issued with the registration certificate before the end of March, 2016 especially that the Foundation’s financial year is expected to commence on April 1, 2016.

When PCFZ is fully operational I want it to be as visible and as loud as it can possibly be so that men’s health especially to do with prostate cancer is no longer a taboo to talk about. Men, women, couples, families and just society at large must open up and talk more freely and without shame and fear of stigma about that which affects the male generator – the testicles, all that is within the pelvic area more so the 33kv step up transformer – the prostate gland.

As a prostate cancer patient myself and on treatment since July 2015 at the Cancer Diseases Hospital (CDH) I now know more than ever before that this disease is a very serious health problem in our country Zambia. There is no need to pretend about it and gloss it over as if all is well. The health concerns of men in this regard must be adequately addressed in much the same way that those of our women folk are being addressed with regard to cervical and breast cancer.

But all this must start with men and that is why I am urging all men from age 40 and especially those 50 years and above to undergo a prostate specific antigen (PSA) test. This is a simple blood test to check on the status of your prostate and it may not necessarily reveal that you have prostate cancer. It is important to do this as often as once a year but I am sure medical people will advise accordingly. But if there are traces of cancer have my word for that it will not be the end of the world, just take it up from there and live positively.

This time around, am letting out how you may electronically reach me for any clarifications on how I am personally living with the disease and other related issues. My email – chandachimba3@hushmail. com. I beg you to be as sober and as civilised as possible so that together we may have a positive interaction on prostate cancer.

Kalu-GK-PivoZambia will not depart from the CAF resolution that seeks African representative to vote for Bahrain billionaire Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al-Khalifa.

FAZ Secretary General George Kasengele has announced that Zambia will vote the middle east tycoon.

FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya, committee member Pivoty Simwanza and Kasengele left the country yesterday to attend the congress that will replace banned and disgraced Sepp Blatter.

There are claims that lobbyists have already offered and transmitted grants to national associations to vote for the Bahrain man, but his team strenuously denied the allegations

“We are part of the African Football family under CAF and we shall follow what the continental mother body has advised. CAF has taken a stance and as you may know our President( Kalusha Bwalya) is an Executive Committee Member there, we would not want to appear to be at variance with our leaders,” Kasengele is quoted.

The three man Zambian delegation is expected to return home next week where it will swing back to share with councillors proceeds from Bahrain. The FIFA election will be held on Friday.

Magistrate's CourtThe sex assault case involving Game Stores manager Vincent Palan has hit something of an anti climax when the accused walked to freedom after being acquitted.

Palan, who was dragged to court by former Game Stores employee Mwila Mukamuluti, was facing two counts of sexual assault and harassment.

Lusaka Magistrate Aridah Chulu said after having listened to both sides she wondered why Mukamuluti only reported the matter two years after the alleged act.

Magistrate Chulu said that the plaintiff appeared to have had a bone to chew with the accused compromising the merits of her case.

The highly publicized case attracted a close following from women rights organizations who turned up enmasse during the judgment.

The ambitious and transformational development initiatives gives the PF the impetus to seek a second term of office to push to higher levels the inclusive approaches aimed at reducing poverty.

For an all-inclusive development to be achieved it calls for comittiment from all stakeholders and resources among them financial.

Therefore financial institutions such as banks are key to Zambia’s development due to their strategic position to mobilise resources for investment.

Indo Zambia Bank’s extension into Lundazi provides an opportunity to the local community to save and borrow for various business activities to accelerate national development.

The President is happy that the bank is working with government institutions to deliver critical services such as the Farmer Input Support Programme and crop marketing.

Lundazi is a dynamic agricultural area producing crops like maize cotton and tobacco among others.

“Let me use this opportunity to assure the nation that the PF administration will remain committed and reliable to addressing the interests of the Zambian people. UPND MPs Take Mapatizya Formula To Parliament; Livune In Near Punch Up With Kambwili

ParliamentOpposition United Party for National Development, UPND, MPs this evening turned Parliament into a battle ground with Katombora Member of Parliament Rick Livune shocking fellow lawmakers when he walked to the front of the house, threw his jacket in the air and charged towards Information minister Chishimba Kambwili.

Newly elected UPND Solwezi MP Eddie Kasonso also approached his PF Mufumbwe counterpart Steven Masumba as the house of laws was turned in a kick-boxing arena.

The confusion prompted the Speaker to order security personnel to restore sanity. About 20 uniformed parliamentary security personnel led by the Sargent-at-Arms swung into action to quell the situation from escalating into a blood bath.

The opposition MPs were apparently infuriated by the eloquent and detailed description by a statement delivered by Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda who discussed the futility of an opposition electoral win saying; “the PF is the only party in the country with the exclusivity of leadership.”

But Chikwanda was prompted to withdraw the statement later after the Speaker intervened.

Another near punch-up was recorded when when Munali MP Professor Nkandu Luo teased opposition law makers by yelling “Nalelo twala fi wina, (we will defeat them again today)” when oral voting was about commence.

Prof. Luo was boasting about the over 115 MPs against UPND’s 27 MPs that have solidly passed legislation in favour of the ruling party.

Opinion: Lungu’s Presidential Running Mate-The Contenders

Woman running mateBy Joe Mwansa Lombe Kaluba

It is said that democracy is a government of the people by the people. I have however wondered why a certain section of our society are disadvantaged or rather sidelined. When I talk about certain section(s) being sidelined I mean women. We want to claim that we are democratic but our organisations, political parties, communities, countries, content or world are not gender balanced. We can not claim that we are democratic enough when certain sexes seem important than others.

In order to consolidate our so claimed democracy we need to see to it that we have policies that promote equal distribution of positions. In my last post dubbed “Young Women in Politics-Don’t be Stuck in the Mud”, I alluded to the fact that I wanted to see political parties putting in deliberate policies which would aid the striking of that balance. We should see more women adopted as candidates. I also noted that I wanted to see that balance at Presidential/Running Mate(PRM)too.

Therefore, when Zambian President Edgar Lungu hinted that he was going to choose a woman as his PRM in the August 11th Elections. I said now we are talking. I have said in most of my posts that for one to make a great politician and more importantly a great leader one needs to be smart and move with time. This I think is what the President is doing. He is moving with time. He is a man who is making decisions that other leaders even in our political parties are failing to do. We need leaders who see everyone equal so that progress is made and all stereotypes removed.

Yes quality is needed but I think we have more than that among our women citizenry. In this regard what is it that is at stake? What is EL looking for in his running mate? Who are the contenders and why? Are there any outsiders to be considered? These are the questions Lungu is asking himself I suppose. Looking at those questions I would like to highlight individuals I think are in line for that second powerful position.

What is EL looking for in his Running Mate(RM)?

We already know the sex of his preferred RM. The question is what else is Lungu looking for in this Lady? In my opinion he is looking for a woman who can inspire other women especially the young in talking up leadership. He is looking for someone who can be a good working partner a person who will help put Zambians first. He is looking for loyalty. Loyalty to him and the party- Patriotic Front(PF). Needless to say President Lungu and his party are looking for someone who can help win the party elections. Someone easy to sell. In this regard, who are the contenders and why?

The Contenders
I think some of the contenders include some of the following. Please note this is my own political opinion and it doesn’t what so ever indicate the position of individuals including the position of PF.

1-Inonge Wina-Vice President and Minister in charge of Development Planning. The current Nalolo MP will be 75 on 2nd April. A Sociologist by profession Wina brings on board calmness and a lot of experience working with developmental projects. She is hard working and an inspiration to a lot of young women seeking to be leaders. The only question will be her advanced age. But I think it is more to how a person performs that matters. Is Lungu looking for his successor? I think no. If that is the case he may still go with her as his running-mate. Other people will say that she has already broken the record of being the first female second in command. Let’s wait and see then.

2-Jean Kapata.-A Registered Theatre Nurse with a Cert in Theatre & Emergency and a Nursing Diploma, she is the current MP for Mandevu and Minister of Tourism and Arts. Kapata will be 56 on Christmas day. Like Wina she was very instrumental in making sure Lungu got the PF Presidential candidature. Together with the likes of Mumbi Phiri(47 on 15th Nov.) she is one of the loyal PF members and that is a plus. As Minister in charge of Tourism I believe she has done a good job at her ministry. Do I think she has a shot at being Veep. Yes I do. Can she win votes for the party? I think she can. For Phiri I think her skills are needed more in organising the party.

3-Dora Siliya -MP for Petauke Central also Energy and Water Development Minster. Siliya who has a Degree in Mass Communication and an advanced postgraduate research degree in Development Economics will be 46 on the 8th October. Although people will want to rule her out because of her past pronouncements in politics. I think she can have a shot at the Veep position. Becoming a fine leader calls for mature character and we learn that as we gain experience. I think DS has learnt a lot. I have being following her politics and leadership and I think she is one of the most developing women leaders of our generation. I also think she is also a good public speaker and very persuasive.

4-Nkandu Luo-Minister of Gender and Child Development and MP Munali. A full Professor, Luo will be 65 on 21st December. Among other educational certifications she is Epidemiologist has an Msc in Immunology, Msc in Microbiology and a Doctorate in Immunology. The Prof does not only bring academic and international experience but also the political one. However, when Lungu won the elections last year there was talk that she was putting herself in line for the Veep position. I don’t know how true that is. There are two things here though. Lungu has to pick someone who is willing to save. The other thing is do I pick someone who is ambitious. That is for EL to decide.

5-Margaret Mhango Mwanakatwe- 48 on 10th April she is a nominated MP and Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry. Triple M holds a BA in Business Administration and Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) credentials. She brings on board both local and international corporate experience. Though not an acclaimed politician I think she is a big catch by the PF government. In this regard people may say she has to learn a lot to be considered for the Vice President’s position. I would argue that we don’t only need politicians to run the affairs of our country we need leaders and people who are smart and Mhango is one of them.

Who else is in? Christabel Ngimbu MP Zambezi West and current Minister of Lands, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. Ngaimbu has a BA and Diploma in Social Work, She will be to be 50 on 1st July. There is also Alfreda C Kansembe Mwamba a Lawyer by Profession will be 55 on 5th July Holds a BA. Education and LLB-Deputy Minister Labour and Social Security MP Lukasha.

Though not a politician the other is Mulenga Mpundu Kapwepwe who will be 58 on 7th October. She holds a double degree in Psychology and Sociology. A writer and film producer Kapwepwe served as Technical Consultant to the European Union and Technical and Policy Advisor to the Ministry of Sport Youth and Child Development. She also saved as chief for National Arts Council of Zambia. Why do I put her in the mix. Just like I said on Musokotwane. I think we don’t only need politicians to lead but every available smart individual as long as they are Zambian and have a heart for the people. Mpundu has. She can I think help PF win a lot of votes. People have also proposed Forum for Democracy and Development(FDD) president Edith Nawakwi who will be 49 on 15th June. She has a lot of experience in both politics and leadership but the question is as a person who has been negatively criticizing the PF government for the past five years can she work with them. What is her relationship with the enemies of President Lungu? These are the questions people need to ask. We need people who are Loyal not just because they are politicians. So for me I wouldn’t pick Nawakwi. Don’t get me wrong I respect her and what she has done for FDD and communities but we need people who are patriotic even when they criticize.

But as I said it is up the President with party consultation of course to pick the RM. As a promoter of Women in leadership I want to see a lot of women adopted. Good luck to the would be Running-Mate. Note that President Lungu might as well surprise us. Let me know what you think though.

President Lungu Pursues Innovation Solutions to Power Crisis

President of Zambia Edgar Lungu is taking action to pursue innovative solutions to the ongoing power crisis in Zambia by importing 100MW from a “powership” stationed in neighbouring Mozambique.

The ship, which is owned by the Turkish power company Karadeniz, docked in the Nacala port on February 18, and will be connected to the grid in the next two days to generate 100MW of electricity imported into to Zambia for the next two years, temporarily supporting generation capacity which has been weakened by drought.

“When President Lungu campaigned for office, he promised help Zambian people make it through this difficult period and address load shedding problems, and here he is fulfilling his words with actions,” said a government official familiar with the powership, who asked not to be named in the article.

“We have inherited a very difficult situation with Kariba down to just 12% of capacity, and ZESCO only generating 275MW out of a total installed capacity of 1,080MW. While although the previous government had not taken action to prepare for this power crisis, President Lungu is stepping forward to personally take the initiative with innovative solutions.”

ZESCO spokesperson Henry Kapata recently told Reuters in an interview that “We have a power deficit of 630 MW as of January 2016 although we expect this to reduce to below 160 MW by August 2016 as mitigation measures are put in place.”

The addition of the Karadeniz powership to Zambia’s grid is expected to help cut back on load shedding, which is averaging eight hours a day, while the dams await higher water levels.

InfantinoGianni Infantino has succeeded fellow Swiss Sepp Blatter as president of world football’s governing body Fifa.

The Uefa secretary general polled 115 votes, 27 more than closest rival Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa who was backed by Africa.

Africa, whose leader, Issa Hayatou was acting since Sepp Blatter resigned had rallied Bahrain’s Sheikh al-Khalifa.

Prince Ali bin al-Hussein (four votes) and Jerome Champagne (0) were third and fourth respectively.

Blatter, who had led Fifa since 1998, stood down last year and was later suspended from football for six years for breaching ethics guidelines.

Infantino is a 45-year-old lawyer from Brig in the Valais region of Switzerland, less than six miles from Blatter’s home town of Visp.

He entered the presidential race when it became clear that Michel Platini, boss of European football’s governing body Uefa, could not stand. Infantino also has Italian heritage.

“We will hold a march in solidarity with the Chinese embassy because they showed that they are not interfering in the affairs of this country,” he said.

“We know that there are diplomats who are working with the opposition to make the ruling party loo bad in the eyes of the citizens.”

Hichilema’s meeting with 15 diplomats accredited to Zambia has raised some dust although government not raised any protest.

On Friday Vice President Inonge Wina said there was nothing with diplomats meeting Hichilema but expected that they should have notified the ministry of foreign affairs out of courtesy.
