Citizen’s View: Iris Kaingu Is A Marketing Genius

$
0
0

Would Iris wear a muumuu to the beach? Of course NO because it would cover up her “leopard assets”, paparazzi-attracting booty/boobs. One thing certain is, Iris uses her assets in the most recent stunt and it has been incredibly successful.

The lady knew her “Break The Internet” stunt would create a huge uproar in the media and intended to “profit” off the shock. With so many people talking about her bare “leopard assets”, the reach is monumental. (Somebody to do case study on Strategic Brandy by Iris).

Sex sells and she knows it. Iris’s audience is self-invented and they are always in tune with what she says and do. So the minute the nuclear bomb dropped in the internet, this news simply dominated the mental real estate in our country like Hurricane disaster. After all, she started off because of a leaked sex video.

A number of ethical & moral questions are raised with negative backlash on social media. Yes, a lot of people criticize her because she does not fit the right ideals, or the moral ideals. But like it or not, we just can’t resist to know more about Iris and what she is going to do the next time, to break the internet .

So before Iris creates the euphoric magnitude, before server crashes, before modems explode, IT guys be on standby for the next derrière.

Yikes!!!

Times of Zambia employees continue to struggle with non-payment of their salaries hitting the six months mark.

The state owned broadsheet has been battling with heavy debts to creditors but has put employees as the number one scapegoats.

Offloading the salary arrears has been going on at a snail’s pace with employees living off the mercies of politicians.

The better positioned are cushioning their misery through international trips that draws some measly allowances.

The Zambia Union of Journalists is due for a meeting with management this week with a view to find a solution that has been elusive thus far.

GBM ‘Throat Case’ Fails to Take Off

Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) vice president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) had another fruitless day at court with his case for allegedly proposing violence adjourned after state witnesses failed to pitch up.

Mwamba popularly known as GBM is in court for having metaphorically said that he was going for President Edgar Lungu’s throat.

Patriotic Front deputy spokesperson reported Mwamba to the Lusaka Central police on grounds that the sentiments had put the life of the President in danger.

When the matter came up before Magistrate Thandose Chabala the prosecution team informed the court that the two witnesses that were expected to testify were not available.

The matter has been adjourned to November 6 for the prosecution to close their case.

GBM has become a near permanent fixture at court where he is facing a litany of cases that he alleges are politically motivated.

Registrar Delays Musenge’s NDC Party Registration

Mwenya Musenge’s fast track dream of forming a political party has hit a brick wall with the Registrar of Societies telling him that the process could take up to three months.

Musenge, who insists his paper work to register the proposed National Democratic Congress (NDC) is in order, said that he was surprised that his party will take three months to register when political parties had been registered within five days.

The Registrar of Societies has even declined to receive the K5, 000 fee for the registration of the NDC but only received the documentation promising to scrutinize the paper work.

Musenge has struggled to register his political party that is deemed a front for expelled Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili.

Kambwili has clung on to his Patriotic Front membership through a court action although his vitriolic attacks on the ruling party suggest his days in the party are numbered.

Veteran Scribe Pours Cold Water on Incident Driven Health Reportage

Veteran journalist Edem Djokotoe has check mated scribes that have excitedly taken to social media over the death of one of their own Sithembile Zulu of the Daily Mail after giving birth.

A cluster of journalists had taken to social media lamenting how no woman should die during child birth but Djokotoe gave the journalist driven social media buzz a reality check calling on the scribes to take responsibility for failing to highlight health matters in their reportage.

BELOW IS HIS FULL POST:

I didn’t know Sithembile Zulu, the young Daily Mail staffer who died, I gather from the posts I have seen on FaceBook, while giving birth. I have seen the outpouring of grief and emotion from many media professionals, some of whom I know well. I have even seen an online hashtag campaign which reads: #NoWomanShouldDieWhileGivingLife being driven by journalists who knew her personally and will undoubtedly be broken by her death. I imagine that because she was “one of us”, her death will get some media attention.

But I want every Zambian journalist reading this to pause for a minute and reflect on how it came to pass that we failed Sithembile and thousands of women like her by not making health a story worth telling, even though health is a matter of life and death for 14 million people who live in this country. And she passed on in a big city, the capital where there is even some modicum of care and infrastructure. Think about women tucked in the nooks and crannies of Zambia who risk death every time they have to give life to a child.

I am angry at all of us because we have chosen to subvert the values of news which form the bedrock of our professional and throw Public Interest out of the window. We have gone to bed with politicians and made them the only story in town. And for what? For the promise of a cushy diplomatic appointment or a seat on the government gravy train.

We should not pretend that we are not to blame for deliberately overlooking the news we should be covering and instead hiding behind the pale-faced excuse that because there is no Access to Information legislation in place, we are not able to report what we should.

We don’t cover health unless the Health Minister is making a speech about health. We don’t cover education unless the Education Minister is cutting a ribbon to officially launch a new school. We don’t cover agriculture even though we eat every day unless the Agriculture Minister decides to talk about maize floor prices.

Come to think of it, we do not even cover mining, which gives the government over 70 per cent of its revenue and has been the mainstay of the national economy since the dawn of Time. We cover games not the broad expansive landscape of sport, so we are stumped where the soccer season closes and there are no games to watch!

When we scan news content in the public and private media, what do we see? Can we honestly claim that what is on offer gives people a real sense of what is going on in every sphere of concern under the administrative jurisdiction of a government ministry? In short, we cannot afford to be in denial about what is really wrong. I know there are real tears being shed for Sithembile Zulu, but I also know that there are many others riding on the crest of the moment to be seen to sympathise and shed hippo tears.

All said, the moral outrage that led to the hashtag campaign and to the effusiveness of the public show of grief should inspire us to do what we became journalists to do in the first place—and that is, to report news of significance and interest to our largest constituency: the public.

Luanshya Resident Questions Qualification Of Court Clerk

I am concerned with the current situation concerning the authentication of documents at Luanshya II Local Court. A named office orderly is now stationing herself everywhere around the court premises stopping everyone she sees with the papers & asks them if they’re there for the certification of documents. My question is that isn’t there an order at the courts with regards to who receives the litigants? Aren’t there right people to attend to us there?

I am therefore appealing to the Provincial Local Courts Officer to come in & look into this issue because as a general public we now have a problem as we do not know which office to go to for assistance at the courts as we are welcomed right by the gates by some officers. It’s only at Lusaka’s boma courts where I have seen this trend & I must say I am very disappointed that it has now spread to Luanshya.

Mr. Mweene

Luanshya Resident.

Toll Gates Give Government K300 Million

Government says it has raised over K300 million in road toll fees between January and August this year.

Housing and Infrastructure Development Minister Ronald Chitotela told a media briefing in Lusaka yesterday that government has demonstrated that it is viable to invest in the road sector.

He has since urged the private sector to seriously consider investing in the road sector.

And Chitotela says the construction of the US$1.2 billion Lusaka/Ndola dual carriageway launched by President Edgar Lungu last week is part of the regional trunk road network.

He says the benefits that will accrue from the project will include improvement of the competitiveness of business in the areas served by the road by reducing road transit times and improving delivery schedules for cargo and passengers.

Chitotela says the construction of the dual carriageway will also de-congest Kabwe and Kapiri Mposhi central business districts through the provision of the bypass roads.

TIZ Say Corruption Is Rife In Construction Tenders

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) Executive Director Wesley Chibamba has charged that there is a lot of corruption in the awarding of tenders in the construction sector in the country.

Chibamba has alleged that there is a clique of people that feel entitled to be awarded government contracts to supply goods and services simply because they support the ruling party.

He says this high level of institutionalization corruption should come to an end.

Chibamba has since urged all government departments and agencies to engage in business transactions that are premised on integrity.

He says this would free resources to be redirected towards other competing interests for which there are no resources.

Chibamba has called for institutional, legal and policy reforms around public procurement.

He has reiterated that TIZ is ready to work with the government in bringing about these reforms so that public procurement benefits the Zambian people and not the corrupt few with ties to government officials.

Chipenzi Talks By-Election & ECZ New Appointments

The coming by-elections will be a litmus test to the newly acting Director of Elections, Chomba Chellah, and his Head of Public Relations Margaret Chimense, at the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

The manner in which they would ensure or ensured the electoral Code of Conduct enforced to the latter, the manner in which they promote transparency and accountability in the management of the process and the efficiency in the administration of the remaining part of the electoral process would define who they are and would be in the near future.

Are they going to accept responsibility and willing to be accountable to their unpopular decisions and mistakes? Indeed, their conduct will define the electoral destiny of country and outlook of our electoral process come, 2021.

As stated in Article 45 of the Constitution, Zambia’s electoral system and process must and should be transparent, accountable, efficient, credible and pursue a timely resolution of electoral disputes.

Zambians, not only in areas where these by-elections are taking place but the whole country, are expecting not less than an improved management, administration and delivery of credible electoral process in the country.

However, the fact that the media continue to show biased or no coverage of all political parties and candidates despite the guidance from the Constitution under Article 50 and the commission is quiet is already a source of concern that the Commission is scared of censuring the culprits.

The fact the the Vice-President would pretend to undertake a three days- working visit to Itezhi-tezhi district where there is by-election using government facilities and resources, a pure act of abuse of public resources and yet, she went there to campaign for the ruling party district Council Chairperson candidate and the Commission is quiet, is extremely worrying to us electoral stakeholders.

Therefore, Chomba Chellah led ECZ Secretariat must not be shy but be proactive and censure all acts inimical to the credibility of the electoral process and also acts that undermine the electoral code of conduct.

I wish all the districts and wards holding by-elections God’s protection and wisdom.

Kambwili Is Not A Factor, Says Kampyongo

Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo has warned embattled former Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili to stop misconducting himself in speech and manner by making it a habit of issuing disparaging remarks against President Edgar C. Lungu.

Kampyongo, who is also PF National Youth Chairman, wondered what sort of nonsense Kambwili represented by practicing politics of character assassination and urged him to engange in issue based politics.

“Iam warning Kambwili to desist from talking nonsense about people like he did against the Minister of Information. Let him not threaten people especially members of the PF. No one in PF owes Kambwili anything. Not the new members nor the old members. And let him not masquerade as having been an old serving member of PF because he is not. ” Hon. Kampyongo said.

And Kampyongo stated that if Kambwili was looking for loyalty from anyone, it should be from members of the party he wanted to form with Mwenya Musenge.

Meanwhile Hon. Kampyongo has expressed disgust at Kambwili’s statement discrediting the Presidential Marketeers Empowerment Initiative fund stating that no sane person would see anything wrong in someone helping to alleviate the suffering of others as Presidebt Lungu was doing for the Marketeers.

President Edgar Lungu will today open the second session of the 12th National Assembly after parliament having adjourned sine die.

The recent opening sessions addressed by President Lungu have been controversial with opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) Members of Parliament boycotting.

In the last sitting Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini handed one month suspensions to 47 UPND lawmakers that shunned the last Presidential address.
The UPND lawmakers have been protesting President Lungu’s victory in the August 2016 elections.

However, today the UPND MPs will be expected to take up their seats in the house fearing consequences after having their payments suspended during the punishment.

In this sitting of parliament the citizenry will be looking out for the presentation of the national budget by Finance Minister Felix Mutati on September 29.

The presentation of the political parties’ bill will also be on the cards.

PF Puts Up Defense Over $1 Million Fire Trucks

$
0
0

The Patriotic Front is fighting back allegations there was corruption in the procurement of fire trucks.

About 42 fire trucks were early this week paraded at the Lusaka Showgrounds for distribution to various cities.

PF critics have come out guns blazing accusing the ruling party of corruptly awarding the supply of the trucks to suspected party loyalists at an inflated price.

Among the chief critics of the tender is former chief government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili who allegedly said $1 millions for each truck was excessive.

BELOW IS THE PF RESPONSE

*So what’s the fuss about the fire Trucks? Let’s look at the facts*

A public tender was brought out in 2015, business entities submitted, a selection was made and approved by Zambia Public Procurement Authority(ZPPA)

It should be noted that over 18 business entities participated and submitted quotations from $32m-$56m for 42 fire tender specialized trucks

Two years later what you saw on Friday is therefore a hand-over ceremony and not a procurement process.

*How much is a fire-truck?*

The short answer depends on the fire truck or fire tender.

There are three most common fire trucks.

1. A pumper/engine truck,

2. A ladder truck, and

3. A wildland truck of some sort.

Specialized and custom-made trucks like a heavy rescue or hazmat truck would be common also.

*Why are Fire tenders so expensive?*

There are two costs associated with fire tenders;
a) the type of apparatus, b) the cost and type of vehicle and c) the cost of the equipment that the truck carries.

So a fire engine, depending on the class and type of truck ranges from $1.5m whereas a ladder truck could cost up to $350,000 and that is with both trucks unequipped.

Shipment of this trucks is also different from normal vehicles

Adding equipment from basics like hoses to hydraulic extrication tools may add another $50,000 to $100,000 to the existing costs.

It all comes down to the specifications of the department ordering a new (not used) truck (renowned brands like Scania, Renault, Mercedes and other technically excellent vehicle add costs to say Tata or Daihatsu).

The costs also responds to the specifications that the source wants and what functions they want that piece of equipment to do and perform.

MultiChoice Treating Zambians Like “Bloody Cinderella”– Senior Journalist

Distinguished journalist Edem Djokotoe says South African pay television channel Multichoice is taking Zambians for a ride.

Djokotoe is particularly upset that SuperSport will not show the Carnelo Alvarez fight this weekend.

He said some channels are filled with content for an Afrikaans audience.

Djokotoe, a key feature in the Zambia media, says it was sad Multichoice had continued to treat Zambians as third class citizens.

BELOW IS WHAT EDEM DJOKOTOE WRITES

It’s official. Multichoice treats those of us who live outside South Africa as third-class citizens. And if they think they will pressurise me to take down my complaint like they’ve done to one Eugine Phiri, theyve got another thing coming because I won’t. Not when I am a paying customer and they treat me like my Kwacha aint shit.

We all have our reasons for subscribing. I was big on Premium because of boxing–as in live world championship boxing fought in Madison Square Garden, the MGM Grand, The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, at Wembley in London or wherever big money scraps could be organised. Never mind all those crazy game shows and Afrikaans channels I care two hoots about. As long as I could watch my No. 1 sport and keep abreast with What’s What in The Fight Game.

And then, one day, without warning, they stopped showing us elite boxing fights and decided that we were better off watching Golden Gloves and fisticuffs from East London . The so-called best of South African boxing from town halls in the Eastern Cape.. Folks, if that is the level of boxing I want, I could mosey on down to Matero all day long and watch bloods trading leather in dingy little venues where their skill set isnt too different from my own. That’s like taking away the EPL and La Liga from soccer lovers only to give them league games from Outer Mongolia where there are more mountain goats per square kilometre than there are people!

Anyway, you con us into believing that you’d seen the error of your ways and would start treating us to The Fight Game like you used to do. All you did was show us The Money Fight which, as any aficionado of pugilism will tell you, wasnt a real boxing match. There is no such thing as The Money Belt. It is not a title sanctioned by any of the boxing bodies. That fight was all about money, period. Yet you showed it and we got our fill of the novelty.

Now, tomorrow night, the world will wake up to what is arguably The Fight of the Year. Genaddy Golovkin steps into the ring to fight Canelo Alvarez to determine who is the baddest middlweight on the planet. This here fight, which has taken years to seal, is the only fight in town and we all want to watch it. But all you’ve done, MultiChoice, is to show us the hype and to take us through the countdown–only to make it clear that the fight is only available to viewers in South Africa. Now if this isnt treating us like bloody Cinderella, then I dont know what is.

Now you know exactly what I think of you. I have said my piece and it is either you get with the programme and note down a genuine complaint by an old client who is as pissed off as hell with you. Do I speak Afrikaans to be saddled with all those Boer channels? Aikona wena. I dont want!!!

It has taken me the better part of 15 minutes to vent my spleen at an infernal time of the morning when normal people should be sleeping but I needed the peace and quiet to put my thoughts together for your benefit and on behalf of many subscribers who feel as cheated and as slighted by your lack of consideration like I do.

Just know that I will not take down this complaint, no matter who makes a song and dance about it. It is, after all, my wall, and last time I checked, freedom of expression, was still a basic human right. You heard.
