PF Takes Offence: Pilato’s “Koswe Mumpoto” Insulting and Provocative

The ruling Patriotic Front has taken strong exception to Pilato’s satirical hit taking an aim at its leadership for allegedly plundering the country.

PF youths are taking turns to respond to Pilato. While some youth are civil, others are extremely vulgar and hurling unprintables at the singer.

BELOW IS A STATEMENT

PILATO’S SONG INSULTING AND HIGHLY PROVOCATIVE

Kabwe, Central Province 12th December 2017 – The recently song released by Pilato is insulting, provocative, degrading and outside the province of one’s entitlement to freedom of expression. We vehemently disagree with the offensive lyrics as they are designed to insult and demean.

While we do not expect Pilato to like President Edgar Lungu or any other leader, no one should promote vile-charged social commentary intended to drag the rest of society to low-time sewer politics.

We therefore call on members of the public, including the Church to condemn such contaminated social commentary aimed at insulting and ridiculing leaders. While we believe in freedom of expression, we shall not condone abuse of that freedom to insult innocent citizens, including our leaders.

Patriotic Front youths therefore gives Pilato a 48-hour ultimatum to withdraw his track. We shall not sit back and have him insult our President at will in the name of freedom of expression.

We have no problems with anyone holding the President and his administration accountable, but we have serious issues with those who wish to take it upon themselves to insult the President and his Government. They should be ready to swallow what they have decided to chew.

Moses Chilando
Central Province Youth Chairperson – PF

Pilato Ready To Die For “Koswe Mumpoto”

Satirical singer Pilato says those threatening his life may succeed in terminating his life but will not succeed in killing his ideas.

Responding to a 48 hour ultmatum issued by ruling party supporters to withdraw a social media hit single they view is an attack on President Edgar Lungu, Pilato says he was too small a genius to stop circulating the circle that was in public domain.

“Those threatening violence and death on me, kindly be advised that I do not posses any physical power to defend myself. I do not wield weapons but thoughts and ideas.

“You will without any difficulty beat me and possibly kill me? Then what? Is your commitment to inflict pain on me more than your commitment to having a socially just society? Where then do you draw your confindence to claim your humanity?,” he states.

BELOW HE WRITES

PILATO WRITES: 48 HOURS OF?

I am an artist and not a politician. Politicians produce statements out of duty not out of their convictions. In a society where political power is the ultimate power, people begin to fight for relevance by doing all sorts of things. Young men and women begin to make blank statements just to capture the attention of those with power to lift them. Politics have become a platform for the loudest and the strongest and often times people raise their voices neglecting the need to raise their levels of reasoning and consciousness. In this fight for relevance, prophets and pastors have been insulted and embarrassed. In this same fight for relevance brutallity against young people pursuing their dreams has been justified. People have lost lives in this struggle for political relevance.

Every young person must critically ask themselves, What type of a society are we creating?
I have received the warnings and the insults and after reading the statements targeted at me, am left confused. I can’t understand why humans are involving themselves in the issues of rats and other things. If the statements were coming from ZAWA it would have been understandable. Ladies and gentlemen, am sorry i do not have the intelligence or wisdom to withdraw a song. I don’t even know if i have to go to an ATM machine or bank just to withdraw a song thats about rats. Kindly guide me on how this can be done and i will surely comply.

Those threatening violence and death on me, kindly be advised that i do not posses any physical power to defend myself. I do not wield weapons but thoughts and ideas. You will without any difficulty beat me and possibly kill me? Then what? Is your commitment to inflict pain on me more than your commitment to having a socially just society? Where then do you draw your confindence to claim your humanity?

I am just an artist with thoughts and ideas.

Maiko Zulu, Njoya Tee Clash Over Pilato’s “Koswe Mumpoto”

Zambian artistes Njoya Tembo aka Njoya Tee and Maiko Zulu have clashed over the controversial song that Kitwe-based singer Pilato has released that is perceived to be direct attack at President Edgar Lungu and his government.

Njoya, who is the Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) president, says Pilato’s song fell below the standards of freedom expressions.

“Despite Pilato not being our member, ZAM would like to disapprove of the latest song ‘Koswe Mumpoto’ done by Pilato as we deem it to be another abuse of freedom of expression using music.

“It is very clear that the song in question is meant to demean the Head of State and President of Zambia,” Njoya states.

Njoya says Pilato’s song was politically vindictive, judgmental and a conduit to promoting character assassination s well as division in the country.

“ZAM believes that music should not at any given time be used as a tool to propagate hate speech, citizen hatred and bitterness,” he added.

Njoya says Pilato’s last song received similar opposition but the singer went on to apologize.

“It is regrettable and unfortunate that Pilato’s current song is once more against the core values of ZAM and does not help to steer positive change in society apart from being too politically malicious, defamatory and hostile.

“ZAM would like to both denounce and distance itself again from this song and only believe that in due course, Pilato will find the right Christian and democratic reasons to openly apologize as he has done before,” he said.

But Maiko Zulu says failure to embrace Pilato’s song showed lack of appreciation of art in the country.

“Conscious music is a rare commodity in Zambia and across Africa and must be supported because its like a camera that photographs what is already in existence. This is music that is a hard reflection of what society and its people offer and often, this is not music for cowards.

“Pilato is one artiste who has been a voice of many and deserves his space in this society which has given abundant space to music and movies which have sold vanity to the masses.

“Yes one can decide to break this camera called PILATO but you see we are now in the age of GOOGLE and it has a bigger camera out in the sky near the moon, like Big Brother….if you know what I mean,” Maiko says.

Pilato is enduring a hostile reception after releasing a song that metaphorically analyses Zambia describing ruling party officials as rats feasting on national resources.

Kambwili & His NDC Are Overrating Themselves – Kitwe Deputy Mayor

The National Democratic Congress Party (NDC) has a long way to form government and should not overrate itself, Kitwe Deputy Mayor Everisto Chilufya has warned.

Chilufya, the PF District Vice Chairman, has charged that the NDC is only popular on social media and through pronouncements but has a lot of work to do before they thinking of forming government.

He said the NDC which is brainchild of Chishimba Kambwili should not be blind folded by a few desperate individuals with no relevance following around but focus in organising the party on the grassroots.

Chilufya charged that the behaviour of claiming that the NDC has taken over Copperbelt will soon be tested and the party should not shy from participating in any elections that may come through.

“Look they keep claiming they have taken over Copperbelt, what yardstick are they using? Which of our members in the structures have joined them, I think we need to be serious, they should not think being joined by a few frustrated means they are popular,” he stated

Chilufya has said that there is no new individual in the NDC and all its members know too well what the Patriotic Front is capable of doing during elections.

“Who is new there, they are all our brothers… It will take a lot of time to unseat the Patriotic Front not this time, they know what we are capable of doing, so they shouldn’t overrate themselves” Mr Chilufya added.

He said the PF has continued to implement its pro-poor policies and that nothing has changed as being claimed by those in the opposition.

Kitwe Mayor Cautions Civic Leaders Against Illegal Land Allocation

Kitwe mayor Christopher Kang’ombe is hopeful that the new crop of councillors will leave a mark in their respective wards owing to their hard work.

Kang’ombe, the Local Government Association of Zambia President, said most of the councillors in the current term look ambitious to performing better with hopes of being re-elected.

“Majority are ambitious and as a request I would want them to account for their time in office so that in 2021 they are either re-elected or elevated to a higher position such as Mayor or MP,” Kang’ombe said.

He has advised the civic leaders in the country to hold monthly community meetings in their respective wards to appreciate challenges being faced by their electorates.

Kang’ombe added that councillors should by all means stay away from vices such as illegal land allocations which have been a hindrance to the progress of most councillors.

“Do not get involved in illegal land allocation because the law will not spare you, remember to honour your pledges to the residents in your wards,” he advised.

Kang’ombe advised councillors to develop good working relationships with their respective Members of Parliament by ensuring that they don’t pick fights but work with them to deliver.

FAZ Drops Dr Magwende Over Unverified Link To UPND

CHIPOLOPOLO team doctor George Magwende has been dropped from his position almost three months after Zambia Reports face reported the scheme.

On August 24, 2017, Zambia Reports revealed that FAZ president Andrew Kamanga was set to sack Dr Magwende for allegedly ‘kissing’ UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema at Mukobeko Correctional Facility where he operated as senior assistant commissioner in charge of health services.

Dr Magwende was retired from his post at prisons in August.

The Mast Newspper reported yesterday that Dr Magwende had since been demoted to the Zambia U-23.

“Following the executive committee meeting of 28th October, 2017 we are pleased to inform you that the executive committee of the Football Association of Zambia has reassigned you to the position of U-23 national team from the position of senior national team doctor with immediate effect. We are confident that , given your interest, experience and dedication, you will be able to guide your team well and contribute meaningfully to its work,” read part of Liwewe’s letter dated November 29.

The physician, one of the only two Zambians to hold a diploma in sports medicine, a qualification which will soon be mandatory for all national team physicians, according to FIFA also confirmed in an interview with The Mast the latest development.

“Yes, it’s true that I am no longer team doctor for the Chipolopolo and no reasons have been given,” Dr Magwende said.

When the reports first surfaced, Dr. Magwende was allegedly seen talking to opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema at Mukobeko Maximum Prison.

Hichilema was on August 16 discharged from prison after serving four months on treason related charges which are non-bailable.

The source stated that the brief meeting between Dr. Magwende and Hichilema led to the Patriotic Front government to retire the former from the Zambia Prisons service in national interest.

The sources concluded that Dr Magwende was accused of allegedly being sympathetic to Hichilema during incarceration. Hichilema spent part of his four months in jail at Mukobeko Maximum Prison where the headquarters of the prisons service led by Comissioner General Percy Chato is based.

Multiple sources told Zambia Reports in August that sports minister Moses Mawere was among the officials in government that extended Dr Magwende’s ‘punishment’ to FAZ.

“In one of the meetings, the minister asked the [FAZ] president what Dr Magwende was still doing at the national team. The president did not say anything but now instructions have been given that the doctor should be relieved and the search for his replacement is in full gear,” one person not authorised to comment told Zambia Reports in August.

But when contacted in August on the reports, FAZ president Kamanga denied issuing those instructions to sack Dr Magwende.

“I am not aware of this matter. Grateful if you could avail me copy of the said instruction,” he said in a press query.

Today, we are pleased to avail Kamanga the results of his instructions to sack Dr Magwende.

EDITOR NOTE:

We hope Mr. Kamanga is now “aware of the matter”. The link to our article published in August.

Former Matero MP Miles Sampa has finally made his way back to the ruling party declaring President Edgar Lungu the PF 2021 presidential candidate.

Sampa says during his time in the wilderness where he hit political disaster after flirting with the opposition UPND and attempting at running a party that lamentably failed, is delighted to be back to PF.

The former deputy minister says he had learnt two lessons during his time away from PF one of which is to be 100 person loyal to the President and his appointees and the other is patience.

Sampa also took an indirect jibe at Chishimba Kambwili warning he will be more frustrated if he left PF.

“There will never be a Michael Sata outside PF. Anyone representing Sata out there is a fake replica. At the moment the only one representing President Sata is Edgar Chagwa Lungu,” he said.

Sampa had pleaded to be welcomed to the party of his uncle – the late president Sata – but was asked to wait until today when he was unveiled at the PF secretariat.

PF Secretary General Davies Mwila welcomed Sampa back urging him to contest any election he would be interested in.

The Kitwe City Council has proposed to spend about K 177,835 million in the 2018 financial year.

Presenting the 2018 financial year budget in the Council Chamber, Finance, Valuations and Commercial Undertakings Committee Chairperson Collins Chansa said the Local Authority will finance 34% of the budget from local resources generated through rates and charges while national support and other charges will finance the difference.

He said the Council has apportioned about K99,259 million to service provisions in communities but will also depend on the willingness of residents in paying their dues.

Chansa said the total amount is inclusive of constituency development fund and ward development fund aimed at developing communities to help uplift the living standards of the people.

He further disclosed that the presented budget has seen a 13% increase from last year due to the efficiency in revenue collection recorded in the last one year.

“The total expenditure for the year 2018 amounts to K177,835 million, this amount includes a sum of K 1.5 million for the design of junction improvements as well as K 2.45 million for road maintenance, K 4 million for the creation of a dumps site, K 4.88 million for building maintenance, K 2.3 million for bus station maintenance while K 3.44 million will be spent on street and traffic lights,” he said.

Chansa added that the Council recorded an efficiency level of revenue collection of about 58% which was still lower than the targeted 75% by the Ministry of local government.

And speaking later, Kitwe Mayor Christopher Kang’ombe said the Council will endeavour to improve revenue collection to at least 80% to meet set targets.

Chingola Council Pays Off Retirees

The Chingola Municipal Council will next week start disbursments of K 4 Million from the K5 Million outstanding balance the institution owes its retirees.

Chingola Mayor Titus Tembo has said out of the 93 retirees meant to be settled, 80 will be cleared by next week including the deceased benefit balances.

Tembo disclosed the development during a meeting with the retirees in the Council Chamber in the presence of Town Clerk Kabombo Mutakela, Council Chief Officers and Bankers from Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO).

Tembo said it has not been easy for the Council to have resources available and was happy with the patience from the retirees and gave the council management and Councillors ample time to put heads together.

“Let’s listen and learn one or two things from the money experts from the Bank who know very well on how retirement money should be used and these are here to educate us,” he said.

Tembo added that beneficiaries needed to be mindful that the money is not just for them as individuals but for families and other relatives who may need assistance.

He it has been a well-known norm in society that retirees misuse their retirement packages and that is the more reason the Chingola Council took the initiative of addressing them and involve one of the big Banks in the country to educate them.

And Town Clerk Kayombo Mutakela said the Council is fully aware that the payment of the retirement packages has been overdue and management has been working tirelessly in ensuring that the problem is addressed once and for all.

He emphasized that only those who retired in 2013 will remain with balances and further added that the Council needs to find ways again of settling the arrears.

Pilato Is A Brilliant Artiste: Let’s Celebrate His Extra-Ordinary Talent

$

If you are on one end of the political divide, Pilato’s Koswe Mumpoto [a rat in the pot] is an unsavory piece of artwork.

And if you are on the other end, you will be grandstanding the singer for freely expressing his views for what you would claim is obtaining in the country.

Whichever side of the coin you claim to represent, Pilato’s ingenuity has revolutionized political debate in the country.

When critically looking at the feedback the Koswe Mumpoto satire has generated, the impact tells it all. He is an artiste in his own class.

The singer has changed the course of our discussion. Using contemporary art, he has rattled the political base.

In a non-general election year, local musicians are ordinarily on the periphery of the political spectrum.

Their role in politics is rather insignificant, at least for now when Dununa Reverse or Donchi Kubeba mean nothing, but a collection of computer beats. Yet Pilato has just changed the course.

The Kitwe-based poet has even created some short term income generating opportunity for his fellow artistes who were waiting for 2021 to earn a bit of income from political parties.

Thanks to Pilato, his fellow artistes are now falling all over the place to show their relevance to the ruling elite with less than impressive replies. But they are making the money, anyways.

Let’s face it. Art is controversial. Art can divide opinions and Pilato is doing just what he is called to do although not the Iris Kaingu way.

He follows through some of the most controversial artistes seen beyond our borders.

It’s therefore unfortunate to see Pilato being subjected to this backlash. What our country should be doing is harnessing the gem Pilato is. Let’s forget the politics; look at his immense talent and how he is able to lead national debate.

Take a moment. Listen to Koswe Mumpoto; listen and listen carefully. Pick the brains that puts together a thought process that stirs the debate we are having.

For once, let’s divorce our political opinions, emotions and bias from the ultimate interpretation from the lyrics Pilato’s compilation.

One will be far from agreeing Pilato is a rare breed. The young man deserves the country’s backing.

Pilato deserves the support of all well meaning Zambian. His talent is exceptional, and it is this unique type of art Zambia needs to promote.

Pilato Responds To PF Aligned Thugs: Dig Your Own Graves

$

Underfire singer Pilato has offered another philosophical response to suspected ruling party thugs that have issued threats on his life in a video posted on Facebook.

The thugs, who can easily be identified, have threatened to deal with Pilato viciously for his latest political hit Koswe Mumpoto.

The trio puffing on some cigarettes boast that they dealt with Max Chongu and Innoncent Kalimanshi, and will extend their muscle to the singer who has rubbed the establishment the wrong way with his Koswe Mumpoto satire.

BELOW IS PILATO’S RESPONSE

AM NOT MY OWN CHILD

Often times intellectual deficiencies are compensated with physical mighty. Those with a serious mental bankruptcy resort to violence when they are challenged with ideas so its no surprise to see wimps covering their weaknesses in bodies of men. Strong men dont impose their insecurities on other people instead they stand to protect the weakest, they rise to fight for justice for those that are unjustly treated. Strong men dont instil fear in those perceived to be weak, they speak hope and love. Strong men dont threaten artists instead they love and enjoy art.

Since imwe muli bafyamba, listen to a great reggae artist named CULTURE, in one of his songs he says, “this world is like a mirror, reflecting what you do, if you face it smiling it will smile back to you” and in another song he says ” when you to dig a pit for another make sure you dig two, one for yourself and one for your enemy.

I have no capacity to protect myself from you so will surely you will deal with me. I do not

South Africa Claim Sixth Mopani Copper Mines COSAFA Under-20 Championships Title!

South Africa claimed their sixth regional title after a 2-1 victory over Lesotho in the final of the 2017 Mopani Copper Mines COSAFA Under-20 Championships at the Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe, Zambia on Saturday.

Lyle Foster and Kamogelo Sambo bagged the goals for the South Africans, while Rethabile Mokokoane replied with an excellent long-range effort for Lesotho, who remain without a victory in the competition after three final defeats.

North African guest nation Egypt finished third when they beat fellow invitees Uganda 3-1 in the third-place play-off.

South Africa were head inside five minutes when Lyle Foster scored his third goal of the tournament with a neat finish into the bottom corner after Luvuyo Mkatshana had been tackled in the box. And Amajita made it 2-0 just before halftime when Kamogelo Sambo bundled the ball home after Keanu Cupido’s close-range effort had been blocked by substitute Lesotho goalkeeper Silase Kopano.

Lesotho almost found a way back into the game late in the first half when Bonang Mohapi’s free-kick struck a post and bounced away to safety. Lesotho pulled a goal back in fine fashion when Rethabile Mokokoane, who had only been on the pitch for a matter of minutes, shot from 40-yards, the ball nestling in the top corner as South Africa goalkeeper Sanele Tshabalala appeared to react late to the could not keep the ball out.

Lesotho might have equalized soon afterwards when Mokoteli Mohapi found himself with an empty net to aim at, but he side-footed his shot wide. Egypt collected the bronze medal with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Uganda in the earlier match.

The North Africans were ahead on 19 minutes as Roshdi Ashraf swept a hard and low shot past diving Uganda goalkeeper Eric Kibowa at the near post. But Uganda drew level as Muhammad Shaban headed home a minute before the break, his fourth of the competition and a goal they deserved for the pressure they had applied.

Ashraf netted his second when he reacted quickest to a shot that had rebounded off the post and buried the loose ball. Allan Okello had a superb chance to equalize again for the Ugandans, but he put his diving header wide of the goal.

The win was secured for Egypt though deep into injury-time when Abdelrahman Amr volleyed home a superb long-range effort for his third goal of the competition.

The Player of the Tournament award went to Mkatshana, while Shaban claimed the Golden Boot. Monaheng Ramalefane was named the Goalkeeper of the Tournament prize, while Lesotho picked up the Fair Play Award.

NDC, PF Stay at Each Other’s Throat

The National Democratic Congress and the Patriotic Front have stayed at each other’s throats with the latter’s national youth chairperson Kennedy Kamba saying that Mwenya Musenge’s party is lying about being attacked by the ruling party.

Kamba held a press briefing to dress down NDC officials saying they are a bunch of failures.

“We know who Mwenya Musenge is, he is a constituency failure. He stood as a member of parliament under our party ticket and he was beaten pants down by our constituency chairperson Mwila Mutale who is today an independent MP. Can they lead a country when they failed at constituency level?” Kamba said.

Kamba also distanced the Patriotic from the attack of NDC officials and damage to their property during an appearance on 5FM radio.

He alleged that the PF was holding a welcome briefing for the prodigal Miles Sampa at the time the NDC were being attacked at 5FM radio.

Kamba said the attackers were not PF members but sympathizers of the ruling party.

He said that they may have been incensed by the incessant attacks on President Edgar Lungu.

“The people who are attacking them, of course they are sympathisers of the party but they are not members of the party,” he said.

“Remember this party, this government was not only voted for by PF members, they were voted by people who are not even members of the party so when they continue to insult, when they continue to demean the person they voted for, would they be happy? They should stop demeaning the president”.

The NDC has been tapping into the PF base for support which has not sat well with the latter.
