United Party for National Development (UPND) Deputy Secretary General Kuchunga Simusamba has dismissed assertions by Southern Province minister Daniel Munkombwe that the UPND is a tribal party.
Mr. Simusamba says the party is not run on tribal lines as can be clearly seen from its impressive performance in recent Mpongwe parliamentary by-election where it came second to the ruling PF.
He said his party is a national party and the biggest threat to the Patriotic Front’s continued stay in power.
He says this is why the PF will do everything possible to tarnish the image of the UPND by giving it a tribal tag knowing too well the threat the opposition party poses.
Simusamba says Munkombwe will always say bad things about the UPND in order to satisfy the PF for the job has been given.
Munkombwe is quoted as saying that the opposition UPND will never be successful politically because its leader Hakainde Hichilema runs the party on tribal lines.
