Acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda is in India hoping to find help for the much talked about judicial reforms that collapsed with the firing of Justice Ernest Sakala and his deputy Denis Chirwa.
Justice Sakala and his deputy justice Chirwa were rid of at the helm of the judiciary as they were viewed opposing a cartel behind President Michael Sata who are facing numerous legal suits they want handed in their favour.
Since the removal of justice Sakala and justice Chirwa, calls for judicial review have died down considering the cartel holding President Sata believe they have reasonable hold on the acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda and her deputy Florence Mumba to pass judgments in their favour.
One of justice Chibesukunda’s destination is India where she met that country’s Chief Justice Altamas Kabir and the Indian Minister of Law and Justice Dr Ashwani Kumar.
The Indian government has since committed to helping Zambia in strengthening its judicial system to increase access to justice for all.
India has also pledged to assist Zambia in establishing a judges academy and conducting capacity building programmes for judicial and legal staff, to enhance dispensation of Justice as assured by Chief Justice Kabir and Dr Kumar.
