Kabinga PandeNorth Western Province Members of Parliament have reacted angrily to President Michael Sata’s assertion that they have never stood for their people.

In a joint press briefing, eight parliamentarians said the Patriotic Front had deliberately chosen to marginalize North Western Province but had opted to take all the resources to the newly created Muchinga Province where Sata hails from.

Spokesperson Kabinga Pande said despite the huge contribution that North Western Province had made to the national treasury, they were getting a raw deal.

“We are aware of the lopsided development that is going on and that he has allocated huge amounts of money to the newly created Muchinga Province where he hails from and there are massive developments,” he said.

“So far there are two universities to be set up in Chinsali while there is nothing for Eastern, Southern and other provinces that are being sidelined.”

The MPs said the people of Western Province had a right to support a political party of their choice especially one that did not just see them as a tool for advancing its selfish interests.

“Our province is only important to the extent that it is seen as an area to buy MPs to increase numbers, not to be developed.” he said.

Among the notables were United Party for National Development’s Charles Kakoma, Shaft Katuka and Sara Sayifwanda.

President Sata told a campaign rally in Solwezi East that he had never heard any MP from North Western Province lobby for development.
