PF Minister Say South Africa Tests Implicate Zambeef

zambeefFindings from further laboratory analysis undertake in South Africa on meat samples taken from different batches and outlets of ZAMBEEF, have confirmed the presence of formaldehydes a compound used to embalm dead bodies.

Health Minister Joseph Kasonde has told Parliament in a ministerial statement today that the affected meat products are the interiors and hooves which are mainly imported.

Dr Kasonde says his ministry has since embarked on establishing the point of contamination of the meet products.

He says formaldehyde is not listed among preservatives in the country’s Food and Drugs Act because of its harmful nature.

Dr Kasonde says his ministry will take appropriate action following the outcome of the findings as prescribed by existing laws.

The Health Minister adds that his ministry with the involvement of local authorities will intensify routine monitoring of food and strengthen surveillance not only in points of entry but also within the country to ensure food safety and guarantee the quality of life for the Zambian people.
