Following the shortage of HIV Aids drugs Neverapin and Truvada government has not opted to load patients with a lesser potent drug Tripula, a move opposed by the Treatment Literacy Advocate Centre.
With patients now only on two week’s supply rather than a month’s supply the recipients now have to settle for Tripula where Truvada and Neverapin are absent.
TALC executive director Felix Mwanza says the situation is dire and needs urgent attention.
“Now with the shortage of Truvada and Neverapin in some clinics the HIV patients now are being given Tripula,” he said.
“You know that for now the patients are not getting their month’s supply of drugs gave to settle for two weeks’ supply due to rationing.”
Government has been dodgy on the HIV/AIDS drug situation but admits that the drugs are in short supply.
