hakainde-hichilema-zambia-politics-electionsOpposition United Party for National Development president Hakainde Hichilema says he hopes the loss of elections by defectors will slow down defections in the next session of parliament that commences on September, 28.

Hichilema said he hoped there would be reduced defection induced by elections to ensure parliament focussed on delivering on their promises.

“Our prayer is that for the next session of parliament MPs will focus on working and not wanting to cross over the floor. We urge them to stick to their parties, if they are opposition they should stay that way and if they are from the ruling party they should keep it that way to ensure effective checks and balances,” he said.

“But with the losing of those that crossed we think some potential defectors will think twice since the people are more alert and have shown you cannot always take them for granted.”

Hichilema also said government needed to table progressive bills before Parliament.
