The ruling Patriotic Front has retained the Mansa Central by-election after their candidate Chitalu Chilufya polled 9, 671.
Returning Officer Robert Zimba said PF candidate Chitalu Chilufya polled 9,671 while FDD’s Alfred Mwape was the runner up with 1,279.
In third position was the MMD’s Malama Kapolyo who got 1,103 while the UPND’s Rosemary Mwiche polled 388 with tail ender UNIP having their candidate Charles Mwelwa getting 162 votes.
The opposition could take solace in local government by-elections where they won three by-elections in North Western Province.
The Mansa Central by-election fell vacant following the death of incumbent Kennedy Sakeni who was also Information Minister.
The voting in Mansa closed with a low turnout recorded. Mansa residents were voting for an area Member of Parliament after the death of Sakeni who was the incumbent.
Mansa has about 88, 000 registered voters but less than half of the electorates turned up to cast their votes.
