Opposition candidates in Malambo and Vubwi constituency have been given the hint to start campaigning for by-elections despite the poll still mired in a lengthy court process.
President Michael Sata forgot he had declared seven days of national mourning in honour of South Africa’s liberation hero Nelson Mandela and went on a campaign trail in Eastern Province.
Incumbents for Vubwi Eustackio Kazonga and Malambo Maxwell Mwale have lodged legal challenges questioning their purported ineligibility on account that their seats were nullified on account of alleged corrupt acts but they have sought review of the situation with the process yet to be exhausted.
The two are some of the former ministers who the ruling party is hoping to neutralize politically by ensuring that they are barred from re-contesting their seats.
President Sata held political rallies in the two areas and introduced Patriotic Front candidate for Vubwi Margaret Miti.
The Head of State has declared a seven day national mourning period that ends today.
