Mulongoti apologises to MMDPeople’s Party president Mike Mulongoti says he is shocked that President Michael Sata has launched campaigns in Malambo and Vubwi constituencies before the judicial challenges in the two areas are completed.

Mulongoti said it was wrong for the Head of State to lead the way in breaching the law by flouting the constitution that bars anyone from campaigning before the ECZ declares dates for campaigns.

“You see the matters for the two seats are still in court and I do not know where he drew his strength from because clearly what he did is against the constitution,” Mulongoti said.

“We know that he wants to increase his MPs but that does not mean that he should not follow the law. Why is he in a hurry? Maybe he knows something about the ruling that we do not know.”

President Sata forgot the national mourning he had declared in honour of former South African president Nelson Mandela and hopped in Presidential plane to go and campaign in Eastern Province for the imminent by-elections whose take off has been held due to legal challenges.

Incumbents Eustackio Kazonga (Vubwi) and Maxwell Mwale (Malambo) both former ministers in the MMD government have challenged the move to block their candidature after the Supreme Court nullified their seats alongside many others as has been done for targeted opposition MPs.
