The Treatment Advocacy Literacy Centre says it hopes government will be more organized in distributing Anti Retroviral drugs this year to avoid the crisis that happened last year where the drugs were in short supply.
TALC Executive Director Felix Mwanza said the Ministry of Health and Community Development should press the Ministry of Finance to ensure that there was an orderly supply of the drugs.
Last year a critical shortage of ARVs hit the country leading to rationing of the medicines while in some parts of the country the commodity had completely run out.
Patients were forced to take lesser potent drugs as a stop gap measure.
“Our appeal is that government avoids last year’s situation where we had to ration drugs and where some patients in rural areas had to cover long distances to access the drugs,” he said.
“We hope they have done their homework this time around and ensure that 2014 is a better year for the fight against HIV/AIDS.”
