Freelance journalist Wilson Pondamali has been acquitted on two counts of malicious damage to property and attempted escape by the Kabwe Magistrate Court in a rare setting heard on a weekend.
Pondamali, who is one of the independent scribes that the Patriotic Front government has been harassing through trumped up charges walked, to freedom in a rare Saturday court session.
The other journalists under the PF hit list are former Evelyn Hone College lecturer Clayson Hamasaka, Thomas Zgambo, Richard Sakala and Simon Mwanza.
Pondamali’s harassment is believed to be based on suspicion that he works for critical online publication Zambian Watchdog.
