Bob SichingaThe Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection says it doubts that the right people are in charge of the Ministry of Agriculture.

JCTR Executive Director Father Leonard Chiti said it was clear that the ministry of agriculture was in a crisis as there had been a wide outcry on how the marketing season and input delivery were handled.

He said the chaos could result in reduced crop yield in the 2013/14 season. Outspoken economist Bob Sichinga is the minister of agriculture.

“I do not think we have the right people managing the agriculture ministry. How do you expect farmers to produce a bumper harvest when inputs were delivered late? In fact we think that this year we should expect a low yield,” he said.

“The people we have managing that ministry have put the food security of the country at a risk.”

Farmers have raised dust over the late delivery of inputs with some riots have been reported in some places over the delay in the inputs being handed over to the farmers.
