The Zambia Union of Nurses has made a last ditch call for government to reinstate the nurses that have received their final dismissal letters.
ZUNO General Secretary Liseli Sitali said the organization felt deceived after assurances by the government that it will reverse its decision to fire the nurses.
On Monday, the University Teaching Hospital handed over 120 dismissal letters from the Public Service Management Division.
Sitali said ZUNO had written an apology letter to the government in their plea for the nurses to be reinstated.
“As ZUNO we have appealed to government to rescind its decision to fire over 120 nurses at the UTH. We had several meetings with government at which we were assured that they will review the position but now they have given them final dismissal letters,” he said.
“We had written an apology letter apart from the ones the individual nurses wrote asking the Head of State to forgive the nurses.”
Over 300 nurses countrywide were served with dismissal letters after a strike last year that was instigated by disparities in the pay roll structure.
The nurses were also demanding the implementation of the promised 100% salary increment.
