President Michael Sata has shut the door on constitution discourse among public service officials saying the country already had a functional constitution.
The Head of State who has gone cold on a subject he passionately advocated whilst in the opposition said that if the government officials added their voices to the constitution making debate it will not go away.
President Sata said the country was functioning perfectly well under the current constitutional order.
During a swearing in ceremony which is one of the occasions he uses to communicate government positions President Sata warned the constitutional office bearers to stay out of the constitution making debate.
“What you should do, avoid do not talk about the constitution because when you are taking oath you are talking about the constitution and when people talk about the constitution, you just ignore them,” he said.
“Kumwesu umuntu ngu ulemwasuka uli kumwinshi ninshi ulemwiswila (in my village when you answer a knock from someone then it means you are going to open for them. So when they talk about the constitution ignore them, because without the constitution we would not be here.”
He added: “We are running three arms of government because this policemen is taking oath today because there is a constitution which empowers him”
Those sworn in are former Kitwe Town Clerk Ali Simwinga as ambassador designate to Egypt, Godwin Phiri Commissioer Police State House, Robert Kaziya and Proud Kabuswe as public policy specialists at cabinet office.
