ShakafuswaThe ruling Patriotic Front is struggling to sell its Katuba Constituency candidate Moses Chilando with his non local roots proving a challenge to endear him to the locals.

President Michael Sata had refused to heed to Chieftainess Mungule’s call for the ruling party to field a local candidate of Lenje disposition and instead pushed through Chilando’s candidature.

The locals are said to be jittery with the bulk of Members of Parliament in Central Province emanating from other regions of the country.

Locals feel their heritage is being compromised by not having enough of their people taking up parliamentary positions.

However, the ruling party is determined to push through its wishes and is sticking with Chilando whose being not registered as a voter in the area has only further compromised his position.

The Katuba Constituency by-election takes place on February, 25 with seven political parties taking part.

Seven candidates from the PF, MMD, UNIP, UPND, National Restoration Party (NAREP), National Revolution Party (NRP) and ABZ are jostling for the vacant Katuba parliamentary seat.

These are Moses Chilando for PF, Cecil Holmes for MMD, Friday Malawo representing UNIP, Jonas Shakafuswa on the UPND ticket, and Joseph Mushalika for NAREP.
Others are Shakespeare Mwakamui representing NRP, and the ABZ candidate Patricia Mwashingwele.
