The Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has urged President Michael Sata to be the voice of reason in the nation by putting back on track the current constitution making process as per terms of reference of the Technical Committee.
The CCZ says 2014 being the Jubilee year when Zambians are celebrating 50-years of Independence; the government can give the nation a very special gift of a new constitution and climax the cerebrations.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, CCZ president Alfred Kalembo has also observed that by giving the people of Zambia a new constitution in the Jubilee year, President Sata will also be hailed as a man who changed the country for good towards prosperity.
Rev. Dr. Kalembo further states that CCZ believes that giving Zambians a new constitution in the Jubilee will also go into the annuals of Zambia as having been a period during which the country was led by a President who walked the talk and redeemed Zambia from squalidness and mediocrity.
And the CCZ president has encouraged Finance Minister, Alexander Chikwanda to without delay channel the 5.5 billion kwacha realized from the suspended subsidies on fuel and maize to the social sector to ensure that the poor people in the country benefit.
He points out that a visit to some of the country’s hospitals and clinics by the CCZ, has established that 50 years after independence people are still sleeping on the floor without proper care or medication.
