The Civil Society Coalition on the Constitution says President Michael Sata should state plainly if his mind is set on not giving Zambians a new constitution.
Coalition chairperson Father Leonard Chiti said it was shocking that the ruling party had now resorted to pouring scorn on the constitution when government had been part of the process.
He said President Sata had directed government officials to attend provincial conferences on the constitution.
“It seems that there will be no constitution given under the Patriotic Front government which is very funny because when provincial conferences were taking place he allowed government officials to attend,” Fr Chiti said.
“At the national conference ministers and senior officials like Attorney General, Solicitor General and DPP attended. They should just state clearly that they will not give us a constitution because they are not interested.”
President Michael has angered many interest groups by recently taking to making jokes about the constitution, a document he promised to deliver in 90 days.
