Transparency International Zambia says there is nothing to celebrate by the minimal progress made in the fight against corruption.
TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu said there was still rampant abuse of public resources by government officials with controlling officers not immune from thieving.
Lungu said there was still a long way before significant progress could be achieved in the area of corruption with the political establishment showing little will to fight the scourge.
“There may be some indication that some steps have been made in the fight against corruption but they are not worth celebrating because we are still a long way in the manner we are approaching this important fight,” he said.
“Issues of mismanagement of tax payers’ money, imprest and controlling officers failing to give clear explanations on financial transactions are still a huge part of the problems going on.”
