The ruling Patriotic Front is enjoying and funding the confusion in the opposition MMD as it helps to divert attention on the constitution making process.
A few leaders, including the indecisive vice-presidents Michael Kaingu and Brian Chituwo, have been bought off by the ruling party to cause confusion and lead a revolt against party president Nevers Mumba.
Party spokesperson Dora Siliya has been dangled a carrot with or corruption cases expected to be dropped if she manages to destablise MMD where Major Richard Kachingwe and others failed.
But some PF observers are warning Siliya she may only be used for the moment and taken back to court because the ruling party wants a relief from the constitution fight.
This morning Siliya, Chituwo and Kaingu held a press briefing on instructions from President Sata.
The Siliya group was accused by Lusaka Province youth chairperson Scorpion Kadobi a attempting to bring the party down.
Vice Presidents Brian Chituwo and Michael Kaingu alongside party spokesperson Dora Siliya denied being used by the ruling Patriotic Front to destabilize the party.
People’s Party President Mike Mulongoti was also in attendance with the conveners saying an extra ordinary convention could be called if two thirds of the members want it.
Vice President in charge of administration Brian Chituwo said it was clear that the MMD was dying and denying that fact would be living in denial.
“Failure to admit that our party is dying a slow and painful death will be gross injustice to many Zambians who regard the MMD as their only political home to participate in the governance of our nation,” Chituwo said.
“The MMD like many other political parties is critical to the democratic governance of our country as it possesses a proven track record.”
And Kaingu said it was not possible that the top leadership had hired themselves by the PF.
Meanwhile, Siliya chorused Chituwo’s sentiments that the MMD was in a crisis.
“Why are we losing elections in Mpulungu UPND is coming out second? Why aren’t we winning by-elections these are things you are asking us,” said the outspoken former Petauke Central lawmaker.
“So should we go to Doctor Mumba and telling him nothing is wrong sir everything is okay? We will be lying that is why we are here today to say, how do we save this party? It is not about whether I want to be vice president or not. I can’t be anything unless you the people made me somebody.”
