The Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union says government should use the Labour Day celebrations to reverse the wage freeze.
CSAUZ general secretary David Chiyobe said the wage and recruitment freeze was taking away from the Labour Day celebrations as the cost of living had gone high.
Chiyobe said the general cost of living was high and the majority of workers could not afford a decent life.
“Government should use the Labour Day celebration to lift the wage freeze, we are hoping for a change of heart during this day. The cost of living has gone very high and the two year wage freeze will work to the disadvantage of the workers,” he said.
Chiyobe also pleaded for the dismissed nurses that government has refused to reinstate.
“We appeal to them as the father of the nation; no one will lose anything if people soften their heart. We are looking forward to the change of heart,” he said.
The Patriotic Front government has imposed a wage freeze and also recruitment freeze for the next two years.
